“Thank you immensely for flexing tonight and allowing [us] to join by zoom…I also want to share my deep deep deeeeeeppppp appreciation for the feedback you left for me on my [paper], I was reading it just as class started with tears in my eyes. You’re wonder; it’s a breath of fresh of air.”

“Thank you Dr. Brandehoff for always being so open, supportive and willing to go ‘off script’ when you see a need in your students even if it isn’t related to the Agenda of the day….I am extremely grateful to you for always anticipating needs and being willing to provide guidance.”

“Dr. Brandehoff takes her role as a mentor very seriously in the most wonderful way. She advocates for students with historically marginalized and excluded identities and creates space to amplify their voices. She goes out of her way to connect students to research opportunities beyond the classroom, even if she’s not their formal advisor. As a BIPOC student, it’s incredibly powerful to know there are faculty members who are truly looking out for me. For class assignments, the feedback she provides is supportive while also challenging me to hold high expectations for myself as a scholar; she has helped me to become a better writer and a more critical thinker. Dr. Brandehoff’s instruction, mentorship, and guidance have had a profoundly positive impact on my doctoral journey.”

“This class provided a foundation for my thinking that I had not considered and is crucial for doctoral-level research. It should be required early in the program to benefit all students as they begin their academic journeys. This was one of my favorite classes in the entire program because of the authenticity Dr. Brandehoff brought to the class. She challenged us to learn about ways of knowing that were outside of traditional Western/academic frameworks, which helped me to feel seen and validated. Additionally, she encouraged us to interact with one another in a respectful yet critical manner, fostering a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment. I received thoughtful, valid feedback that will stick with me outside of this class.”
